Hello! Readers आज के इस आर्टिकल में हम verb to be Past tense के बारे में पढ़ेंगे साथ ही साथ कुछ stupid sentence जिसमें हम अक्सर कन्फ्यूज हुआ करते हैं जैसे - राजा सदा दयालु होता था।, प्राचीनकाल में लोग ईमानदार होते थें। पुरानी फिल्में साफ और सुथरी हुआ करती थीं। इत्यादि में आप देख रहें हैं कितना confuse करने वाले sentence सो आज के आर्टिकल में इन सभी का समाधान हम ढूंढ के ले आए हैं

(A) Use of verb 'to be'(Past Tense)

(1) जब हिंदी वाक्य के अंत में था/थी/थे रहे और ये वाक्य में मुख्य क्रिया का काम कर रहे हों तो ऐसी क्रियाओं की अंग्रेजी वाक्य के कर्ता के अनुसार was/were होती है। नीचे दिए गए टेबल को समझ कर अपना concept clear करे

Affirmative Sentence

Structure: subject+was/were+adjective.

Example : 

• हमलोग व्यस्त थें। We were busy.
• तुम दुखी थे। You were unhappy.
• वह अशिक्षित थी। She was uneducated.
• वे लोग सभ्य थें। They were civilized.
• अभिषेक और टिंकू खुश थें। Abhishek and Tinku were unhappy.
• छोटू फुर्तीला और स्वस्थ था।  Chhotu was active and smart.

अब हम लोग ऐसे वाक्यों पर विचार करेंगे, जिनका structure है -- 

Structure: subject+was/were+Noun.

Example :

• मैं अभियन्ता था। I was an engineer.
• आप लोग सैनिक थे। You were soldiers.
• वे लोग कलाकार थें। They were artist.
• वह एक रात्रि प्रहरी था। He was a nightgaurd.
• अजय और वीरेंद्र किसान थें। Ajay and Virendra were farmers.
• अनामिका के दादा जी प्राध्यापक थेAnamika's grandfather was a professor.
• वाजपेई भारत के प्रधान मंत्री थें। Vajpayee was the prime minister of India.

Negative Sentence

जब Negative sentence बनाने की आवश्यकता होती है, तो was/were ke बाद not लगा दिया जाता है। 

Example : 

• मैं तैयार नहीं था। I was not ready.
• हमलोग नियमित नहीं थें। We were not regular.
• तुमलोग अशिक्षित नही थे। You were not uneducated.
• मौसम साफ नही था। The weather was not clear.
• लड़का अनाथ नहीं था। The boy was not orphan.
• वे लोग भिखारी नहीं थें। They were not beggars.
• जेसी नर्स नहीं थी। Jesi was not nurse.

 Interrogative Sentence 

जब वाक्य प्रश्नवाचक ' क्या ' से प्रारम्भ होते हों , तो उनका अनुवाद Subject के अनुसार was / were से प्रारम्भ होता है तथा Sentence के अन्त में Note of Interrogation ( ? ) दिया जाता है । 

Structure : Was / Were + S + Other words + ?

(ii) जब हिन्दी वाक्य के अंत में होता था होती थी होते थे/रहता था रहती थी / रहते थे। रहा करता था / रहा करती थी/रहा करते थे इत्यादि क्रिया के पहले एक विशेषण हो और उ विशेषण के पहले यदि कोई संज्ञा या सर्वनाम हो जिसमें कोई Natural या Inherent quality (प्रकृतिगत या निहित गुण) उस विशेषण के द्वारा प्रकट किया गया हो, तो ऐसी क्रियाओं की अंग्रेजी वाक्य के कर्त्ता के अनुसार Was / Were होती है।

7. सम्राट् अशोक सदा उदार हुआ करते थे।Emperor Ashoka was always generous.
8.  पुरानी फिल्में साफ सुथरी हुआ करती थीं। Old films were neat and clean. 
9. अकबर के शासनकाल में प्रजा खुश रहती थी।Subjects were happy during the reign of Akbar.
10.  अंग्रेजों के राज्य में भारतीय सदा दुःखी रहा करते थे।Indians were always unhappy during the rule of the English. 
11.  भगवान् राम के जमाने में सबलोग स्वस्थ और धनवान हुआ करते थे ।In the age of Lord Rama all men were healthy and wealthy.
